Vintage Keuffel & Esser Co. Transit (1952)

Description

Paragon Geological Survey Transit, model 5093A, made by Keuffel & Esser Co. (1952), New York and Hoboken. Also known as a high-post alidade. Standardized instrument for use by the U.S. Geological Survey. The alidade was for use in plane table work.
Description: Metal and glass, 18" long x 3" wide x ca. 8-1/2" high (with striding level attached); yellow-tan color paint finish. Original hinged wood case (19"L x 9"W x 5"H) with manufacturer's printed metal plate and a printed paper label with model and serial number.
Includes: striding level, screwdriver, and plumb bob, all original. Date of manufacture determined from serial number on the box. The number (125052) indicates it was manufactured in 1952.
Item has been in storage for some time.No longer used, the Center is attempting to sell the item to raise funds for fundamental resources, equipment, and supplies.
