    Description

For Sale is a Magnetic Signal Company, Los Angeles, Magnetic Flagman "Wig Wag" railroad crossing signal. Consists of a cast iron mechanism containing low ohm copper coils and a revolving armature that is attracted to a specific set of coils by making of a  electrical path through a moving electrical contact. The current causes the coils to be magnetized, attracting the armature, causing the signal to swing one direction. After a certain distance, the contact opens, and energizes the opposite coils, and this same process repeats over again, causing the arm to swing back and forth.
This signal is of unknown origin, but is likely from the Southern Pacific or Santa Fe. The mechanism is in perfect working condition, including the built in mechanical bell on the rear that rings as the banner moves back and forth. It was rebuilt and restored by the previous owner about 25 years ago, and has been in dry storage since. There is a repaired crack on the roof of the signal, and the banner is missing one lens (The included lens is a original Magnetic Signal Co. marked glass Corning lens). Banner is in excellent physical condition with no damage or rot.
Signal can be shipped via LTL freight, picked up locally in Western Montana or potentially delivered depending on buyer's location, as I routinely travel between the Western US, the midwest, and the eastern states. Please contact me for more details. LTL freight will be somewhere in the 350 range after freight and crating costs.
