    Description

Here's an interesting item for the collector of antique short line railroad hardware. The 5-1/4-inch diameter solid wooden gear was used as a casting model for forging metal replacement gears for a coal crane, which railroads used to load coal into a steam engine's tender. The Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad was part of the Chicago & North Western. Dates to the teens or 1920s.
