Description

Antique Carnival Glass- Australian Magpie & Urn Flower Bowl.
Only one glassmaker produced Carnival Glass in Australia – Crown Crystal Glass Company, Sydney South
The first Carnival Glass made in Australia was produced by Crown Crystal from 1919, most depicting fauna and flora of Australia. The magpie & flannel flower motif seen in this bowl are one of those early patterns.
Crown used two colors to create carnival glass marigold and the very deep and dark black amethyst. This bowl is “ black” that dark deep amethyst.
Most carnival glass made with the amethyst colored glass can be held up to the light to identify the color. This bowl truly is “ black” and a rarer color in the carnival glass spectrum.
The coloration of the bowl interior is spectacular with rich purple, pinks, gold, greens hues surrounding the stippled background that accents the magpie.
This bowl depending on what light you place it under takes on different coloration. The exterior is decorated with berries and leaves and has the most beautiful sheen and is silvery light blue in color.
I have taken different photos in different areas with natural and then house lighting to highlight the color variation that this beautiful bowl gives off. The photos capture the star like sheen of each ruffle.
This bowl is in excellent condition and is without chips or cracks.
This bowl is approx. 10” in diameter and approx.3” in height.
This was a pre-owned bowl and originally was part of an extensive collection of an avid Carnival glass collector.
This bowl is a beauty … an heirloom for years to come!
