    AMERICAN-MADE CARNIVAL GLASS
    1907-late 1930s
    DUNBAR FLINT
    Glass Corporation began in 1913, in Dunbar W. Virginia, making lamp chimneys. In 1930 "Flint" was dropped from the corporate name. The company closed in 1953. Dunbar specialized in thin-blown refreshment sets, many with the signature bulged rings of the "Aramis" pattern which seems to be the Dunbar pattern name that is most familiar to Carnival collectors, and under which most Dunbar pieces are lumped. "Aramis" was one of four patterns named for the characters in The Three Musketeers: Aramis, Athos, Porthos and d'Artagnan.
    DUNBAR #5024
    Lovely and Scarce Marigold Carnival Glass Thin-Blown #5024 Iced Tea Pitcher (no lid) in excellent undamaged vintage (late 1920s) condition. This 9½" tall pitcher is shown with a lid in a 1929 advertisement for Dunbar Beverage Sets.
    There were five principle makers
    of Carnival Glass during the Carnival Era which included the years from 1907 on into the late 1930s:
    Northwood, Fenton, Dugan/Diamond, Imperial & Millersburg.
    There were many other makers as well, although they produced lesser quantities during that time. Those others include:
    Lancaster, Westmoreland, U. S. Glass, L. E. Smith, Cambridge, Jenkins, Fostoria, Heisey, Dunbar Flint, and McKee-Jeannette.
    Excellent Antique Condition
    means that a
    listed
    item has no decernable post-production damage but may have one or more of the following issues related to the production methods and conditions in the early 1900s which, by today's standards were dirty and dangerous, and Quality Control did not exist:  air bubbles not squeezed out by hand-pressing; inclusions of ash from the furnace or debris  from dirty conditions;
    strands of undisolved metallic salts used as colorant; lines called
    straw marks where molten glass was snipped with cool metal shears from the gathering rod, hardened immediately and mixed into the glass like dried paint; marks from shaping tools used to form the edge or influence the shape; mould issues such as incomplete or malformed edges,
    rough seams, extra glass at seams, webbed, incomplete or pulled edge points; cooling issues such as
    uneven legs or a bowed base causing rocking; heat checks which are internal separations from uneven cooling or burst air bubbles, etc. While these issues may be undesirable in the extreme, they do not qualify as "damage" and will be found to some degree on nearly all Carnival Glass.
