    Fun Facts
Sovereigns appeared in the movie "From Russia with Love".  James Bond had 50 of them hidden in his brief case.
British special forces carry them into war zones as a "universal currency".  I'm not certain, but pretty sure there is no plans to replace them in battle with bitcoins.
Britain’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) issued the famous Gold Sovereign coin to its SAS
    troops and RAF airm
en during World War II as part of a similar “Escape and Evasion" survival kit.  And this practice continued during the Iraq war.
    Obverse
Lilibet officially "Queen Elizabeth II" is featured on the obverse of 2021 Great Britain Gold Sovereigns. Her Majesty is shown here in the fifth-generation portrait from Jody Clark. Imagine what this coin would look like with Prince Chuck on the face ( visible shudder)
    Reverse
St. George is shown taming the dragon before slaying it in the reverse design of the 2021 Great Britain 1/2 Gold Sovereign. This design was created back in 1817 by Benedetto Pistrucci and has been widely used on the Great Britain Gold Sovereigns since that time, with the only exception coming during the reign of Queen Victoria. The only inscription featured on this side of the coin is the date mark of 2021.
The story goes that the dragon originally exhorted tribute from the villagers. When they ran out of livestock and trinkets for the dragon, they started giving up a human tribute once a year. This was acceptable to the villagers until a well-loved princess was chosen as the next offering. The saint thereupon rescues the princess chosen as the next offering.
    Gives n
ew meaning to the song "You must have been a beautiful baby, cause baby you weren't
    sacrificed
to a dragon like all the ugly babies of the village ..."  I might have mixed the words up but you get the drift!
